I have personally seen the impact of
diabetes on my family and friends, which initially led me to join Hook The Cure my freshman year. Hook The Cure aims to raise diabetes awareness, which is exactly what I strive to do. This
organization has benefited me in many ways by teaching me leadership skills,
allowing me to collaborate with my peers and the Austin community for a good
cause, and giving me opportunities to gain knowledge on the issue of diabetes. I
hope to further expand Hook The Cure as a university organization and to
continue to increase diabetes awareness in the Austin community.

Many of my family members have diabetes, but I never knew much about the disease because it was never something that they would really discuss. Through Hook the Cure, I have learned so much about diabetes and how it affects people in their everday lives. I am positive that there will one day be a cure for diabetes, and I am passionate about spreading awareness to others about diabetes.

I joined Hook the Cure not just becasue I wanted to
meet new people, but also because I have the interest in learning and
researching about diabetes. As an officer, I look forward to educating more
people about the disease and expanding the organization in doing so.
